Celebrating the wildlife that needs us most this Threatened Species Day!

This Threatened Species Day, Council is inviting our community to come together and learn more about threatened flora and fauna at Bellingen's first Threatened Species Bake-Off.

Bottom line: bake cake, eat cake, learn about the protection of threatened species living in our region.

The National Threatened Species Bake-Off has been running annually since 2017, organised by the Office of the Threatened species Commissioner. Hundreds of Australians have participated, testing out their baking skills, and learning more about threatened species along the way! Council is excited to be bringing this unique and important event to the Bellingen Shire.

Our Shire is a rare biodiversity hot spot - a small, ecologically diverse pocket briming with over 114 native Threatened Species. The Threatened Species Bake-Off is our opportunity for us to come together and acknowledge the significant work being undertaken to protect threatened flora and fauna, better understand how and why these species have become threatened, and to start conversations around how we can work together to better protect them as we move into the future.

The Panel

The event will include a Threatened Species panel and Q&A session led by experts and representatives from local organisations and groups who are working to protect wildlife in the Bellingen Shire and surrounds.

Simply turn up on the day to participate (ie. eat cake) or, click here to read more and get involved.

Event registrations help us prepare the space for the number of expected attendees.
